About
Lady Bird Lake is calling, and your 2nd through 5th grader is invited to answer. Texas Rowing Center's Elementary School Summer Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and packs a full week of on-the-water adventure into every morning. Kids learn to kayak, canoe, and stand-up paddleboard on one of Austin's most beautiful stretches of water, with swimming, arts and crafts, and trips to Deep Eddy Pool and the Austin Nature Center woven in throughout the week. With a counselor-to-camper ratio of 1 to every 4 or 5 kids and sessions capped at 10 to 20 campers, every child gets real time on the water in a setting that feels personal and safe. Kids should come dressed in closed-toed shoes — water shoes or Crocs work great — and bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, a towel, a hat, sunglasses, and a bag or backpack for their belongings. Snacks and lunch are not provided; pack both from home, along with any necessary medications or allergy treatments. For kids who have never kayaked, canoed, or paddled before, there's no better place to start — and for those who've done it all before, there's still a whole lake left to explore.
