The Artful Engineers: Kinetic Art And Contraptions camp at IDEA Lab Kids Austin (Burnet Road) is the perfect blend of STEM and creativity for budding makers ages 5 to 8. This full-day immersion (9 AM – 3 PM) explores the fascinating world of movement, mechanics, and design. Parents can expect their young innovators to build sculptures that move, shake, and spin, mastering the science of kinetic energy and simple machines through hands-on artistic projects. Under the guidance of expert instructors, campers will design complex contraptions and imaginative art pieces, building spatial reasoning and engineering skills in a collaborative, high-energy environment. To keep their creative gears turning, the center provides a free healthy snack, though you are welcome to send a nut-free option from home. Please ensure your child packs a nut-free lunch and brings a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated. We recommend wearing comfortable, everyday clothing suitable for a day of active building and art-making. For families needing extra flexibility, comprehensive extended care is available for an additional cost, allowing for a full day of supervised innovation from 7:30 AM all the way until 6:00 PM.
