About

UT Austin's Radio-Television-Film (RTF) Media Camps are one of the most credentialed and genuinely rigorous media production programs available to young people anywhere in Texas — summer day camps offered on the University of Texas campus (Jesse H. Jones Communication Center, Austin) taught by a faculty of UT professors, advanced graduate students, and working media professionals who bring the same level of craft and industry insight to their youth camps that UT's nationally top-ranked RTF department brings to its undergraduate and graduate programs. Programs span a remarkable range of ages and disciplines, each carefully designed to be the right entry point at the right skill level: Animation (ages 6–9, half-day; and ages 10–12, half-day), which teaches stop-motion and paper animation techniques; Story Development (grades 3–5), a narrative writing and improv camp where campers create original worlds and characters; GarageBand / Music Production (ages 9–13), teaching songwriting, recording, mixing, ringtones, and film scoring; Screenwriting (grades 6–9), a web series writing bootcamp; Film Production (grades 7–12, one and two-week intensives), where small groups script, shoot, direct, and edit original video projects; Advanced Film (grades 10–12, two-week), for students with prior filmmaking experience seeking professional-level post-production challenges; Cinematography (grades 10–12); and Video Game Production (grades 9–12). Full-day camps run 9 a.m.–5 p.m. No meals are provided — campers arrange their own lunch and snacks, with many options on and near the UT campus. Pack a water bottle, any snacks needed, and lunch for full-day sessions.
