Open to children ages 4–13, this beloved summer and school-break day camp has been built since 1980 around one powerful idea: when kids choose their own activities and design their own schedule, something remarkable happens. All day long, campers move freely between options like filmmaking, stop-motion animation, music, art, building, and open play — following curiosity wherever it leads and discovering reserves of confidence, resilience, and creativity that structured programs rarely unlock. There's no set curriculum, no mandatory activities, and no pressure to be anything other than exactly who they are. Campers should come dressed comfortably for active play, and a labeled water bottle is a must; during summer, pack a swimsuit and towel for water activities when weather permits. Lunch and snacks are provided daily — think pizza, soups, sandwiches, fresh fruit, yogurt, and granola bars — so there's nothing to pack on a typical day. With doors open from 8am to 6pm and flexible drop-off and pick-up anytime in between, Steve & Kate's is the rare camp that's as freeing for parents as it is for kids — and the one your child will be begging to go back to all year long.
