About
Neuron Garage is one of Austin's most distinctive and purposeful summer and spring break camps — a hands-on engineering and growth mindset program serving children ages 5 to 12 at five convenient Austin-area locations, including its West Lake Hills campus at Trinity Episcopal School (3901 Bee Cave Road). Founded in 2014 by a veteran Montessori and Acton Academy educator, Neuron Garage was designed around a simple but transformative belief: that the single most powerful skill a child can develop is a growth mindset — the deep, practiced conviction that their abilities can grow through good strategies, effort, and feedback — and that building it requires extended struggle with genuinely hard, genuinely engaging challenges, not rapid-fire activity rotation. Every week at Neuron Garage revolves around a single, open-ended engineering challenge (building a Martian city, designing a bridge that holds the most weight, constructing a Rube Goldberg machine) using almost exclusively recycled materials, inviting campers to iterate, fail, strategize, and keep improving in the same dedicated Think → Build → Learn cycle that real engineers and innovators use every day. Tinkerers (K–2nd grade) engage in guided daily projects; Makers (3rd grade and up) tackle increasingly complex open-ended challenges with greater autonomy. Camps run Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; extended care available until 5:30 p.m. for an additional fee. Bring a packed lunch and a water bottle; snacks are not provided by the camp. Comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothing is all that's needed.
