About

Escuelita del Alma — "The Little School of the Soul" — is one of Austin's most beloved and culturally rich early childhood centers, founded in 2000 by educator Dina Flores as the city's first full-time Spanish immersion preschool. Rooted in the Latin American community and shaped by Flores's 20-plus years teaching bilingual kindergarten in Austin and San Antonio public schools, Escuelita offers a nurturing full-immersion environment where children ages 2 months through 5th grade absorb Spanish naturally through play, art, music, cooking, and daily adventure rather than formal drills. The school's multicultural curriculum celebrates Latin American traditions, fosters biliteracy, and has earned a 2-to-3-year waiting list — a testament to the deep trust families place in its teachers, many of whom have been part of the Escuelita community for decades. Children enjoy fresh, organic meals and snacks prepared daily in the school's own kitchen using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, so there's no need to pack food. Extended hours run from 7:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. with 2, 3, 4, or 5-day scheduling options, and an afterschool program serves elementary-age children. Comfortable, easy-care clothes work perfectly for active days full of learning, exploring, and growing in two languages.
