About

If you're looking for an arts program that goes beyond the basics and actually helps your child see the world differently, Creative Action is Austin's gold standard. As the largest provider of after-school arts education in Central Texas and winner of Austin Chronicle's "Best Youth Arts Program," Creative Action offers award-winning after-school programs, school break camps, and summer camps and academies led by professional Teaching Artists who weave together creativity, social-emotional learning, and social justice education into every single session. After-school programs run daily at multiple AISD campuses for kids in grades K–5, giving students a dedicated creative outlet right after school until 6pm through theatre arts, digital media, filmmaking, visual arts, and creative writing — with an end-of-semester family showcase to cap it all off. Summer Camps for ages 5–7 offer wildly imaginative weekly themes like Superhero Squad, Puppet Pets, Stop Motion Mini Studio, and Mythical Creatures, while Summer Academies for ages 8–11 go deeper with intensive two-week experiences like Comic Book Creators, Music Video Production, Fashion Forward, Confectionery Kitchen, and Ceramics & Sculpture — many held at real partner venues including Austin PBS Studios, Austin Clay Arts, and the Sustainable Food Center, giving kids a genuine behind-the-scenes professional experience. Every camp week builds toward a family showcase, film screening, or gallery expo where kids proudly present everything they created. Kids should come dressed in comfortable, movable clothing they don't mind getting messy, with layering recommended for indoor and outdoor transitions, and closed-toe shoes are strongly encouraged. Please send a sack lunch and a morning snack — Creative Action provides an afternoon snack for all campers. A water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray are also recommended, and on Fridays at the Blanton and Pickle locations, ages 5–7 should pack a swimsuit and towel for water slide day. Financial aid is available for families who need it. With programs spanning multiple campuses across Austin and something genuinely exciting for every kind of kid, Creative Action is the after-school and summer experience your child will talk about all year long.
