About

British Swim School at the Hancock Center in Austin offers year-round swim lessons for children starting as young as three months old, with a clear, survival-first curriculum designed to build genuine water safety skills before anything else. The youngest swimmers begin with water acclimation and survival programs — gentle, confidence-building classes where infants and toddlers learn to feel at home in the water, with a parent or guardian in the pool for support during the earliest levels. As swimmers grow and progress, classes move into foundational stroke development covering freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and an introduction to butterfly, then into advanced stroke work focused on endurance and speed, and finally into pre-team training where starts, turns, medleys, and stamina take center stage. Teen, adult, and adaptive lessons round out the offerings, making this a swim school that genuinely works for the whole family at every age and ability level. Classes are taught in small groups — a 4:1 ratio for water acclimation and survival programs, and a 6:1 ratio for stroke development — with all instructors nationally certified in lifeguarding and first aid. Swimmers progress at their own pace through five clear goals per level, and because there are no fixed sessions, families can enroll anytime and continue until each milestone is mastered. Located inside 24-Hour Fitness Hancock Center, the school is open to both gym members and non-members. Pack a swimsuit and towel; for infants and toddlers not yet potty trained, a snug-fitting swim diaper is recommended. Snacks and meals are not provided, so plan to pack a snack for after the lesson. For families who want more than just swim lessons — who want their child to be truly safe, confident, and capable in the water — British Swim School delivers exactly that.
