About
Austin Tinkering School is the East Austin maker space where kids and adults get to use real tools and real materials to build, design, and create — and where a "can-do" mindset is treated as one of the most important things a child can develop. Located on Wilshire Blvd in Austin, the school has taught thousands of young makers that building things from scratch isn't just possible, it's an incredibly powerful way to learn. Classes, camps, and birthday parties are built around hands-on projects using wood, hardware, electronics, 3D printing, and whatever else the project demands — with experienced instructors who scaffold the process and let kids' ideas drive the work. Summer and school break camps (ages 10–15) offer multi-day immersion in making and tinkering, while regular kid classes serve a broader age range starting at age 3. After-school programs and homeschool options give families flexible ways to fit tinkering into their week. Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting paint, sawdust, or hot glue on — the messier the session, the better the learning. Pack a water bottle and a light snack to power through a creative afternoon.
