About
Austin Soundwaves is an Austin-based arts education nonprofit founded in 2011 with a mission to make music education accessible and equitable for all, having served more than 5,000 students across nearly 40 schools in the greater Austin area. Their flagship Summer Music Camp is a week-long, full-day program with tracks tailored to different experience levels — from absolute beginners to advanced players ages 7–18 — where campers spend their days in ensemble rehearsals, electives like conducting, beat making, and composition, daily lunchtime concerts by guest artists, team-building games, and an end-of-week performance showcase. Beyond summer, Austin Soundwaves offers year-round school-based band, orchestra, and mariachi programs for grades K–12, free private lessons for middle and high school students, the Soundwaves Symphony for ages 11–22, Mariachi Para Todos for ages 10 and up, and the Draylen Mason Fellows leadership program. Early drop-off is included in tuition and late pick-up is available for an additional fee. Kids should come in comfortable clothes with a water bottle and a packed lunch and snacks for the day, and beginners can expect instruments to be available as part of the program experience.
