This class helps young children develop early language and communication skills through play, songs, and interaction. Each session fosters social connection and confidence in a nurturing environment designed for early learners. CSA’s language program is designed to provide intensive speech, language, and learning services. All classes are directed and staffed by licensed Speech-Language Pathologists or Special Education teachers (most of which hold master’s degrees). All Speech Pathologists are licensed by the State of Texas, and most hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association. Individual and small group therapy is also available through The Children’s Therapy Center at Capitol School of Austin. CSA students have average or above-average learning potential but are at risk for failure in traditional settings because they process information differently than their peers. CSA addresses these differences by integrating therapy and preschool/school-age curriculum to maximize each child’s potential. In addition, the low student-to-teacher ratio and individualized attention allow our therapists and teachers to infuse language development and remediation into every aspect of a student’s day. Capitol School of Austin is not an appropriate placement for children with significant social challenges due to autism or emotional/behavioral disorders.

Students are grouped by chronological, developmental and social age and assigned to a Level on the program’s curriculum. School-age levels start with Level 3 which is a kindergarten curriculum and go through Level 8 which is a 5th grade curriculum. Skills on the curriculum are sequenced according to instructional necessity. Having levels rather than traditional grades, allows students to be placed where they are best ready to learn without the stigma of being held back a grade. Levels may also be combined to form multi-age/multi-level classes.
